The final preparations for the Canadian Senior Championship are at the forefront this week as we look to present Niakwa at its best for all competitors next week. Detail items such as bunker work, trimming and edging will be completed throughout the week. Rough mowing will be complete on the property by end of day Wednesday this week and then it will be left to grow throughout championship week. Greens speed and turf grooming practices will also be a focus as we move closer to the weekend and Monday’s practice rounds.
An event of this magnitude does have an impact on course management decisions. Needing the entirety of our staff to work for the event beginning this Sunday evening and through the week means that we will be light staff for course preparations the weekend in advance and the weekend following the event. When the event is over the rough will be long and will take significant time to mow and blow to regain the height of rough we are accustom too. At times this process will be messy.
Beginning this Sunday at 3:00 we will begin to strip all accessories, traffic control and other items that are not required for an event. Mowing will begin Sunday late afternoon and dependent on playing conditions and weather the Turfcare team will groom the golf course every morning under lights beginning at 4:30am and groom the course again in the evening beginning around 4:00pm or when rounds complete.
