On behalf of the Board of Governors, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Bill Bench as our new Club Captain. Bill will take over for our current Club Captain, Rob Sproule, beginning in 2021. Read More>>

Bill brings a wealth of experience, having been a part of Niakwa Country Club since he was a junior golfer. Bill returned to Niakwa along with his wife Theresa and children Eric and Allison in 2002. Since this time Bill has served the Club in many areas including the Course, Membership and Social and Competition (Chair) Committees.  Bill also served on the Board of Governors for 6 years from 2010 to 2015. Most recently, he has acted as ambassador of the Friday Night Mixed Golf and Co-Commissioner of the Wednesday league.

Bill possesses a passion for competition and has recently returned to competitive golf after a 10-year hiatus.  This season he competed in the Senior Club Championship and qualified for the Niakwa Senior Putter team.

Bill is honored and very excited to take on the position of Club Captain.  I am sure that with his experience and enthusiasm he will do an excellent job.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Rob Sproule for his service over the past four years.  Rob did an exceptional job and represented the Club impeccably as Club Captain.  During his tenure, Rob made great strides in defining the specific functions of the role and was successful in creating awareness and making improvements in many areas.  Below are a few of the more significant accomplishments which Rob spearheaded.

  • Pace of Play
  • 2019 changes to the Rules of Golf
  • 2020 COVID Rules
  • World Golf Handicap System
  • Establishing the Handicap Sub-Committee

While Rob’s accomplishments are many, what we will all remember him for are his writing skills.  Rob’s articles in the Captain’s Blog were informative, interesting, and always humorous!

Thank you, Rob, for everything you have done for the Board, members and staff.  Your service has helped to strengthen the Club and is sincerely appreciated by all.

Bev Mehmel, Club President
